So my mom and I have been working the same waitress job for 5-6 years now. She had been waitressing years before, but this is recently. Anyway, about… 15 minutes ago this guy she waited on left and told her to take care. Just that. Prior to this she had talked to him about Italy. Her people are from Florence, this and that, and she said she’s never been. She’s got 8 years of art education and she’s working a waitress job. It’s pretty… Sad and disappointing, I guess. Her and my father divorced 6 years ago and she hasn’t had a real job ever. Just been stuck in a small town she’s not from.

This man who we have never seen before tipped her 1000 dollars for a trip to Italy. Walked out, not another word.

…you know. Just when I start to lose faith in humanity….Hm.

life at the moment is a mixture of different things. the overall feeling is like i’ve been...

life at the moment is a mixture of different things. the overall feeling is like i’ve been living in a little bubble of solitude. ( not a bad thing. ) quiet. taking lots of long walks, reading good books, listening to good music. allowing myself to be sad if i need to. there are little bursts of peopleness though, mostly hanging out with close friends at lynn & carol’s. i know the garden at linnaea’s as well as anyplace now.

in some ways, i want different kinds of those two things. i want the solitude of my own bedroom with candles & incense & an art studio. i also want to peopleness of sleepovers, eating watermelon, going to the beach, sitting in a dark room having a conversation about important things ( like we did at melinda’s party—i sat in the dark utility closet to get away from the music… my friend came in with the same idea, not realising i was already in there. so we sat together for a while, talked about music. )

i wish i had friends nearby whom i could just call when i need to hang out or talk or cry or do something spontaneous, but this town is filled with old people & college students, not much else.
